And he won’t understand. The first days he’ll probably have a lessened appetite and be a bit downhearted. He’ll keep glancing at the door, expecting my return at any moment.
He doesn’t know yet that I won’t be coming back for a while, and there’s no way I can explain it to him.
But it’s alright. Dogs cope. He’ll be staying with my parents, and since my father is retired it means Cosmo will have a lot more company than he does now. A big backyard out in the countryside doesn’t hurt either; he’ll get to spend long days looking out over the landscape. And once he gets that appetite back he’ll get all the treats he desires.
He’s going to enjoy himself, I have no doubt about that.
